Just about a 1-hour Amtrak train ride from Boston is the darling town of Mystic, Connecticut. In that iconic fairytale town know for Julia Roberts’ Mystic Pizza and Steven Spielberg’s Amistad, is the famous Clyde’s Cider Mill. Also known as B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill, the family-owned and operated mill opened in 1881 and is today a registered National Historic Landmark.
The Clyde family continues to operate with the century’s old technique of steam pressing its apple cider! This makes for a richer cider unlike any other.
Clyde’s is the last standing steam-powered cider mill in the country.
It’s a super engaging process to watch the 4th, 5th, and 6th generation Clyde’s farmers in the process. While the pressing season began in September and is now finished for the year, you can still swing by the historic shop and grab some cider to bring home.
Take your cider as a gallon, half-gallon, quart, or cider slushie! The classic sweet cider can be enjoyed chilled, hot, or even mulled with a bundle of spices and fruit!
Naturally, where there is cider, there are apple cider donuts. The mill store offers “renowned” apple cider donuts, fresh local honey, house made caramel apples, apple dumplings, apple pie, and local handmade goods. On the weekends, Clyde’s Cider Mill also serves up batches of its fresh-made kettle corn!
