Sequestered on one of Cambridge’s busiest streets, is a microscopic 24-seat restaurant with some of the region’s best farm-to-table dining. With summer en route, Urban Hearth in Cambridge has expanded their seating with an equally intimate outdoor patio. The homey space is part of the charm of a meal at Urban Hearth.
You’ll feel instantly connected to your neighbors and the duo of chef’s cooking away in the restaurant’s open kitchen layout. Urban Hearth draws in a unique mix of visitors, neighborhood locals excited to try the ever-evolving seasonal fare, Harvard students treating themselves to a refined meal, and even visitors from all over the country taking pause at a restaurant that’s received dozens of accolades, along with its owner and Head Chef, Erin Miller.
With the city bustling outside the fairy-lit window, the restaurant’s buzz of conversation and homegrown ingredients remind us to slow down and savor each bite.
Experimentation meets nature
The team at Urban Hearth uses nature’s playground to inspire the fanciful menu. To start, we tried a Hyacinth mocktail made with a house-grown shrub. The beverage tasted as beautiful as its bright fuchsia hues.
With ingredients that local and fresh, even occasionally sourcing spices from their next-door neighbor, Curio Spice Co., it’s no wonder there isn’t a poor choice on the menu. One of the absolute highlights off the Urban Hearth menu is its farmer’s Seasonal Salad. The rainbow plate highlighted uncommon veggies, from orange zucchini blossoms to curly fiddleheads.
The House Smoked Bluefish Pate with rye crackers is a delightful summertime starter, perfect to enjoy on the newly installed patio. Expertly seasoned and grilled, the Cross Cut Beef Short Rib served with local ricotta, juicy vine ripened tomatoes and an olive anchovy tapenade harmonized on the palette!
If all of these options sound delicious to you, indulge in Urban Hearth’s Chef’s Counter. Travel around the globe as two chefs personally curate, prepare, and deliver a five-course menu before your eyes.
Only four lucky diners enjoy this experience each night. At $140, it’s quite the splurge, but the quality of ingredients speak for themselves at this quaint farm-to-table spot in North Cambridge.
Grateful Bagel x Urban Hearth
This summer, Urban Hearth, normally only open for dinner, will host bagel pop-ups on select dates! Boston’s bagel scene is booming lately, and this brings yet another delightful carb creation to the city’s forefront.
