If you find yourself on the Cape this summer, visit the Shining Sea Bikeway, the area’s only bike path that stretches entirely along the coastline. This gorgeous 10.7-mile-long path begins in Woods Hole and travels to Falmouth, all along the water.
The flat, paved bikeway is smooth and easy, making it perfect for riders of all ages. It passes salt marshes, dunes, Vineyard Sound, and Nobska Lighthouse. The bikeway also makes up a large part of the Falmouth Road Race, the scenic 7-mile race held on Cape Cod.
The bikeway is especially interesting for train enthusiasts, as it was built along a former railroad.
The path travels through conservation land, making it especially fabulous for birdwatchers. On average, the 10.7-mile route takes 35–60 minutes to complete without stops, depending on your speed. Round trip, that’s about 70 minutes to two hours.
There are picnic areas and portable restrooms at various trailheads. AutoCamp Cape Cod, located on the bikeway, is a perfect place to stay and enjoy the trail over several days.
