There’s a bike path for everyone – whether you’re looking for a beginner-friendly path, Instagrammable views of the city, or historical landmarks. Bring your own bike or rent a Blue Bike from one of the many docking stations around the Hub.
1. Charles River Bike Path
Charles River is a classic biking spot, and for good reason. This 22-mile stretch of well-maintained biking paths offers a great look at both the scenery and cityscapes of Boston. Beginning at the Museum of Science and wrapping up around Watertown Square, this path has sights and attractions at every mile, including a glimpse at the campuses of Harvard and MIT. As a busy path with lots of foot traffic, bicyclers are recommended to go slowly and savor the sights on the trail.
2. Underground at the Ink Block
Underground at the Ink Block has reimagined the infrastructure of a highway into an explosion of vibrant public artworks and community spaces. With a total of 21 murals on display, this path allows bikers and runner to take in some local artwork while travelling between South End and South Boston. 3. Minuteman Bikeway
The Minuteman Bikeway is an 11-mile bike path alongside an inactive railroad. Not only does this trail offer you a good workout, it’s also a famous historical site. The bikeway passes through the areas in which the American Revolution began in 1775, and it’s approximately the length of Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride.
4. Arnold Arboretum
Arnold Arboretum is not only a wonderful spot for a scenic biking trip, it also happens to be the oldest public arboretum in America at around 150 years old. Located near Jamaica Plain and Roslindale, this 4.5 mile bike path takes you in a circuit around a huge selection of plants and trees from around the world. You’ll also want to check out the views from the top of Peters Hill, which offers a breathtaking view of the city.
5. Joe Moakley Park
Joe Moakley Park is Boston’s largest waterfront park at 60 acres, and it’s full of bucolic sights and activities.
