Generally, the warmer it is earlier in the winter, the more brutally cold it becomes when it does become cold. Maybe it’s because of a psychological shift or the steep decline. Following the past few snowstorms, the temps are dipping, and winter is officially here to stay. We don’t make the weather rules, but we did find some pretty interesting tips on how to deal with them.
We asked our Boston Uncovered community to drop their best winter prep tips over on our Instagram. So how do New Englanders “brave the cold?” Find out below!
1. Wear enough layers

3. Keep a shovel and an ice scraper in your car at all times. Let your car run every so often in cold weather so the battery doesn’t die out bc the cold is gonna kill it if you don’t

6. Two words: space heaters
This Boston-based Real Estate agent knows what’s up! Nothing sounds cozier than warming up by a private space heater or communal fireplace. Get some smore’s going and maybe not just survive but thrive this winter!

7. Talk about fun ways to spend some time outdoors in the cold. Sometimes, we even do them. But, when we don’t, the knowledge that we could is empowering in a season that can feel limiting.

8. Think about an indoor project that we can do with all of the time we’ll spend at home
Making a gingerbread house or completing a DIY hand tufted rug are two great options for indoor winter fun in Boston!

9. Plan to host a party in the depths of winter. Doesn’t have to be a big deal. Make soup and play games with some friends.
Food is the window to the soul! This sounds delightful. And treat yourself to divine chocolates and hot cocoa from Petrova Chocolates. It’ll warm your right up!

10. Think about the things we didn’t get done this year that are easier to do in warm weather and let them go. Sometimes, they end up on the list for next year, but sometimes, they just go away. Either way, for a couple of months each year, we let the cold force us to just chill
Heal thy heart. Take a staycation at one of these awesome winter destinations. Visit some holiday lights, and just breath it all out!

11. Plant a tree or shrub in the fall that will spend the winter growing roots
Grow a green thumb this winter, maybe even plant an indoor herb garden and source some seeds locally from one of these plant-centric gift shops, like Uvida!
