Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching but that doesn’t mean there’s no time for you to plan a fun weekend away from Boston. From catching the stunning Nantucket sunsets by Madaket to exploring the historic nooks of The Berkshires, here are some of our recommendations to celebrate the long weekend:
1. The Berkshires, MA
Spend a Labor Day weekend steeped in culture at The Berkshires in Western Mass. This area is packed full of museums, botanical gardens, whitewater rafting, stunning hiking trails and more! We highly suggest checking out the Berkshire 18th Century Trail. It will take you to six beautifully preserved homes each holding approximately 200 years of history.
2. Chatham, MA
What better place to spend the last week of summer at than the Cape? The charming town of Chatham is home to some breathtaking houses, mouthwatering seafood and a vast array of clothing boutiques and home stores. A great option if you’re looking to spend your last summer weekend by the sea. Make sure to relax on the Veranda at CBI.
3. Nantucket, MA
Nantucket is another great coastal destination in which to wish summer goodbye. Take in the gorgeous views from one of the quaint island’s many lighthouses and bike along Sconset Beach Bluffs to discover some of Nantucket’s cutest cottages. Cap it all off with watching the sunset from Madaket Beach and you’ve got yourself the recipe for a totally awesome end of the summer getaway!
4. Newport, RI
Newport is home to the great and the good of the East Coast. Filled with stunning Gilded-Age mansions, must-see places in this seaside town include The Breakers mansion and Marble House and the International Tennis Hall of Fame which hosted the first-ever US Open back in 1881.
5. Providence, RI
Check out Providence’s awesome WaterFire festival and grab some top-notch Italian food at Federal Hill, the town’s Italian neighborhood, for an awesome weekend at this up-and-coming hotspot destination. While you’re at it why not get lost in Brown University’s campus? It’s absolutely stunning!
6. Portland, ME
Sharpay Evans imported her lobster from Maine for a reason! This lovely seaside town is perfect for all those looking to spend a weekend full of flavor. Named “Restaurant City of the Year” by Bon Appetit in 2018, Portland is the perfect destination to spend the weekend chowing down on some of the best oysters and lobster in the country. Yum!
7. Stowe, VT
In the summer, this quintessential Vermont town switches skiing for more awesome summery activities including hiking, biking, kayaking and wild swimming. The mountain-side outpost is perfect for those who’re looking to wish summer goodbye engrossed by nature. Plus, its perfect for enjoying the stunning changing foliage once Fall hits in! No wonder it was named one of the ‘most beautiful small towns in the world.’
