1,000 Americans were surveyed to determine the globe’s most attractive accents, and most “annoying” like the Boston accent. In the process, these same respondents were also polled on the most annoying, least attractive, most charming, most confident, and various other accent perceptions.
The poll offered hundreds of global accents to assess, and the finalists highlighted the top three to eight in each category. Highland Title, a Scottish titling company, conducted the survey and polled Americans across the country.
Ironically, Boston’s accent ranked as the most “annoying” according to Americans, yet also the most “assertive and confident.” If it’s annoying to be confident, then maybe our accent isn’t something to hide… The publication noted the potential cause behind this discrepancy stating, “perceptions of accents must also be regional because some accents we studied shared competing characteristics.”
Survey respondents also voiced their opinion on celebrities with the most and least enjoyable accents. 14% of respondents voted for Norwood native, Jennifer Coolidge.

Bostonians are as cold as their winters, so we don’t mind if you find our accent isn’t attractive and just “annoying.” Just make sure you don’t ask us to say “pahk ya cah in the Harvahd yahd” or say any of these other things that annoy us.
