No “the camera eats first” energy at Zuzu’s Petals. This intimate screen-free Inman Square dessert bar wants you to put the phone down and keep your eyes up.
Stay present and engaged whether with a date or on a solo outing at this dainty concept from Alexandra, the founder of gâté comme des filles., a chocolate shop that was once in Somerville’s Bow Market.
Zuzu’s Petals has a strict no-screens policy. Which means guests must turn in their phones for the opportunity to dine. A Covid era camping trip inspired the tech-free dining concept. Alexandra found that instead of presently enjoying their surroundings, people were distracted by FaceTime and the like trying to showcase their surroundings to people far away.
So, Zuzu’s Petals quickly became a place inspired by old-school roots. It’s an ode to a time where there were no screens and scratchy vinyls were the most advanced of technologies. The founding team behind Zuzu’s Petals notes “we remembered a time (can you remember?) when we all knew that it was rude to be on a phone in a restaurant. We felt that Cantabrigians were almost forgetting how to interact in restaurants at all.”
The strictly enforced policy even doesn’t allow guests to call their Ubers in the restaurant. You must step outside as the experience is something sacred for restaurant-goers.
The menu changes seasonally but is dessert focused. You’ll find options like cherry rose ice cream with dark chocolate and cherries. Or share a rich earl grey dark chocolate mousse for an intimate treat.
Zuzu’s petal also offers a cozy cheese fondue, perfect for this time of year and a beautifully curated cheese board.
