A massive new landmark takes over East Boston on Friday, June 12 in anticipation of the World Cup!
The soccer ball is the largest on the planet, 45 feet in diameter, and visible from the air for planes touching down at Logan Airport!
The ball will be on display and hovering tall for photo ops at Piers Park II from June 12 through June 18.
On Saturday, June 13, there will be an official community celebration at the park to celebrate the World Cup kickoff in Boston from 12-4 PM!
A summer of World Records in Boston
This 45-foot-wide soccer ball shatters the previous Guinness World Record for World’s Largest Soccer Ball (just under 39 feet), in an attempt by Massport.
A week prior, on Saturday, June 6, there will be a community attempt to break another soccer-centric World Record. Over 500 people are expected to gather at a Cambridge soccer field to break the record for the most people simultaneously juggling a soccer ball!
With the last (and only) Boston Stadium World Cup taking place over 30 years ago in 1994, it’s a historic summer season in Boston this month!
