Van Leeuwen makes its Boston debut this week! The New York ice cream shop opened its first Massachusetts location in Chestnut Hill earlier this spring, and it’s finally time for the Boston scoop shop!
The iconic ice cream shop began as a yellow scoop truck traveling the streets of NYC in 2008. The founders, Ben Van Leeuwen, Pete Van Leeuwen, and Laura O’Neill, developed a French-style ice cream (made with more than double the amount of egg yolks as standard ice cream) in unique and memorable flavors like Miso Cherry, Hidden Valley Ranch, and Kraft Mac and Cheese, while paying homage to their local neighborhood.
Now with over 60 nationwide scoop shops, each Van Leeuwen shop is known to collaborate with a different local chef or celebrity. For Boston, Van Leeuwen will partner with the one and only Joanne Chang of Boston’s beloved Flour Bakery. The two brands teamed up to create a limited edition Lemon Meringue Pie flavor featuring toasted meringue ice cream with chunks of white chocolate-covered homemade crunchy pie crust and swirls of house-made tart lemon curd, inspired by Flour’s version of the classic dessert.
We are excited to bring Van Leeuwen to Boston, and to collaborate with one of the city’s best local pastry chefs to celebrate the Seaport scoop shop,” says Ben Van Leeuwen. “It’s been so fun working with Joanne and the Flour team, who have welcomed us to the awesome Boston food scene. We can’t wait for everyone to try the collaboration flavor and all the goodness Van Leeuwen will be serving up.
In celebration of the new opening, you can grab $1 scoops out on the courtyard and meet CEO and co-founder Ben Van Leeuwen on opening day, Thursday, September 26, 2024! The $1 scoops will be served on Thursday from 11 AM-1 PM only, so don’t miss your opportunity to get the first taste of Van Leeuwen in Boston!
