Last fall, Uber introduced its flat rate shuttle service in New York City. The transit company recently announced that it plans to “soon launch” the Uber Airport Shuttle for Boston Logan. The goal of this shuttle would be to make airport travel in Boston more efficient, affordable, eco-friendly, and social.
How Uber Shuttle works
To make travel to and from the airport more seamless and affordable, the shuttle has flat rate pricing of $18—whether it’ll be the same rate in Boston is still to be announced. Currently, Uber Shuttle offers trips between New York airports every 30 minutes.
The shuttle introduced its first service between LaGuardia International Airport and Manhattan in 2024. Just last month, Uber launched trips between JFK International airport and Manhattan.
A social ride
The Uber Shuttle has select pick up and drop off destination points in the metropolis. Naturally this improves efficiency and maximizes ridership. But, Uber also hopes this communal shuttle will encourage conversation and get riders off their screens and instead, chatting about the journeys ahead or memories behind.
Shuttle reservations are through the Uber app and will become bookable when launched in Boston. Riders can book their seat on a shuttle during one of the designated pick up or drop off times and the determined points in Boston. Each shuttle fits up to 14 passengers and each passenger can bring up to a 50 pound bag. You can book up to four seats per shuttle in per Uber account.
In New York, shuttles run every 30 minutes from 5 AM through 10:45 PM. The details for when the Uber Airport Shuttle will launch in Boston are still pending—check back for the latest updates! For now, the shuttle addresses the dire desire for an airport train.
