The smallest Trader Joe’s on earth is the one located at 899 Boylston Street that opened back in 2001. While this is a joke among Bostonians, that you’re practically shopping shoulder to shoulder with others, it’s actually a fact proudly displayed at the store’s entrance. As cute and charming as that is, Bostonians are hungry for a normal (if not) largely sized Trader Joe’s in the Back Bay area.
And as of May 2023, it seems those wishes will come true! The supermarket chain is slated to open a 16,500-square-foot store at 500 Boylston Street, not even a mile apart from the micro-sized store also on Boylston. Trader Joe’s does not plan to close the existing location according to reports in the Boston Business Journal.
The new location at 500 Boylston Street will join a primarily vacant 712,000-square-foot address that is up for lease. Currently Trader Joe’s has three Boston locations, one in Allston, Back Bay, and Seaport- so this new one will be the fourth addition to Boston.
