Boston’s bagel scene is thriving like never before. Bagel shops are literally popping up across the city—and the nation—from Brick Street Bagels to PopUp Bagels. Fodor’s, the trusted travel source known for ranking everything from America’s best lobster rolls to top national parks, recently released a tantalizing list of the country’s best bagels.
While New York bagels naturally made the list, two New England spots earned a place among the top 15—proving that up north, our doughy creations can rival those of Manhattan.
🥯Bagelsaurus: Cambridge, Massachusetts

The first shop is a local favorite just a bridge away from Boston. In Porter Square, Bagelsaurus serves iconic slow-fermented sourdough bagels paired with decadent homemade spreads—be warned, the honey rosemary cream cheese is addictive.
🥯Rover Bagel: Biddeford, Maine

The only other New England shop to secure a spot on the list is Biddeford, Maine’s Rover Bagel. Known for their distinctive smokiness from a wood-fired cooking technique, Rover Bagels deliver the best of both worlds: the pleasant chew of a New York–style bagel combined with the charred crunch favored in Montreal, according to Bon Appétit. The Rover tagline—”looks burnt, tastes great.”
