Bostonians, get excited, because Sofra Bakery is bringing its delicious Turkish Simit, mezze, Halva Hot Chocolate, beet tzatziki, shawarma, tahini brown butter donuts, orange blossom morning bun, and more to Allston. The popular Cambridge bakery first opened 16 years ago in 2008. Since, it has drawn long lines, especially on weekends for their delicious seasonal bites and Middle Eastern-inspired fare.
Many of Sofra’s dishes are composed from ingredients sourced from Sortun’s own farm, Sienna Farms. Executive chef and co-owner of Sofra shared the bakery’s expansion in an Instagram post:
We’ve been working on something really big for Sofra and we’re ready to share some news with you. You know that we’ve been talking about a bigger boat for a while now! We are happy to report that a second location for Sofra is underway (only a few minutes away from our Cambridge location) nestled in the [Allston] neighborhood at 210 North Harvard Street—not far from the new location of the ART and Trader Joes. We are grateful for the opportunity to build a better more productive space for our baking and kitchen team as well as more guest seating. I know. We’ll have a bigger space for classes now, too. Rest assured that nothing will change at the Cambridge location, including familiar faces and not enough seats!
Sortun notes the team plans to open the new Allston location in summer 2024. It appears much, much larger than the intimate Cambridge location which often involves a battle for seats as Sortun jokes in her post!
For now, you can find the Middle Eastern bakery in Cambridge or check out Oleana and Sarma for dinner. Sofra Bakery’s Cambridge location will remain open.
