Josh and Joaquin are a duo of Northeastern University juniors determined to enliven Boston’s limited thrifting scene. As founders of the local, designer, and vintage thrifted clothing pop-up, Select Markets, their goal is to amplify the city’s secondhand shopping with unique activations.
While they’re still only students, Joaquin and Josh have a long history of thrifting, so their experience in vintage finds is beyond their years. They’ve now curated their amazing selection, along with the collaboration of local vendors to host Select Markets pop-ups around the city. Their pop-ups offer over 500 unique styles to shop at a time.
And people are lining up in the masses for entry to these fun pop-up shopping meets live party hybrids. Guests come for the clothes but stay for the community and fun energy radiating off Select Market pop-ups. Events include a live DJ and sometimes even free Insomnia Cookies.
The diverse clothing selection is the culmination of partnerships with eight vendors showcasing local brands, designer, and vintage pieces for men and women.
The two Northeastern students have a passion for clothing and music. Select Markets’ mission is to “create vibrant events full of fashion-forward individuals, where they can buy clothes and meet new people,” according to co-founder Josh Maizes.
Past pop-ups took place inside the Piano Craft Gallery in Boston’s South End, located at 793 Tremont Street.
Select Markets’ next pop-up is Sunday, February 18 at The Foundry, located at 101 Rogers St., Cambridge.
