The Nevada Hotel, formerly known as the Nevada Motel, is one of Maine’s first beachfront motor lodgings. Purchased by Joe Lipton and Michelle Friar, longtime York residents who also own The Viewpoint and Stone’s Throw hotels, the property reopened on July 15, 2024, following a two-year renovation. The Nevada maintains its cool 1950s retro energy while offering modern luxuries in an oceanfront setting.
A road and 10 steps are all that separate The Nevada Hotel guests from the shore of Long Sands Beach in York, Maine. With 21 oceanfront rooms, each featuring a water-facing terrace, guests can indulge in the sights and sounds of York’s pristine waters. True to the owners’ style, The Nevada Hotel merges nostalgic touches with modern amenities, pairing retro-inspired decor (and even nostalgic yellow hairdryers) with contemporary features like Kohler dual-head showers. The property is committed to sustainability, supplying only compostable single-use goods in lieu of any plastics.
The hotel’s original 1951 distinct marine-Art Deco facade remains intact, designed to resemble the decks of the USS Nevada—on which the hotel’s original owner served in WWII— while now paying homage to the bright colors of 1950s motels. Throughout the halls, colorful retro decor is omnipresent with vibrant, bold artwork from local artists Kyle Nelson and Dan Dellapasqua adorns the walls. In the rooms, peacock blue tile, black and white terrazzo floors, and colorful accents create a stylish atmosphere.
Travel to the tropics at Lulu’s Restaurant and Tiki Bar
Downstairs, guests will find Lulu’s, an indoor/outdoor oceanfront restaurant and tiki bar. This modern pan-tropical eatery features a delightful waterfront dining experience with space heaters, bonfires, and delicious eats! Don’t skip the Lulu’s bibimpap bowls (beach bap) made with warm sweet and salty coconut rice paired with chilled crispy kale, roasted Maine mushrooms, sweet potato, red onion, gochujang, spicy kimchi, and drizzled with toasted sesame oil! The togarashi tortilla chips with homemade pico de gallo and guac are also a must for the table to enjoy while dining oceanfront.
Embracing York surf culture
The character of the 73-year-old motel remains intact, with enhanced contemporary features that elevate the stay to a boutique oceanfront experience that embraces the surf culture of York, Maine. The Nevada Hotel provides immediate access to one of York’s best beaches. Long Sands Beach is popular for surfing, swimming, sunrise watching, and dog walking.
In the summer, Liquid Dreams Surf Shop offers lessons and rentals for beginners to pros.
