Perhaps one of the most unique experiences you’ll find at Mass MoCa is actually outside the museum. Plastered to the wooden vending machine is a sign that reads “as seen in The New York Times,” but the vending machine is still relatively under-the-radar for locals.
You’ll find Mass MoCa’s legendary art vending machine resting against the museum’s red brick exterior. Inside, are over 50 art pieces to choose from. Each piece is valued higher than a bag of chips, but as the machine signage notes, the “cost reflects the time, intention, and creativity” behind each unique art piece inside the vending machine.
And not every goodie is art in the traditional sense. You’ll find everything from handmade jewelry to poem-filled pocketbooks. Items change seasonally, but prices range from $2 to as much as $40 depending on the piece.
