March Meowness, a tradition at the Worcester Public Library, enables patrons to settle one month of library debts with cat pictures. Even if you don’t own a cat, you can show the library literally any photo of a cat or honorary cat.
The idea came to fruition when overdue accounts surged during the pandemic. With March Meowness, over 400 accounts were cleared in less than a week.
They note they accept cat-adjacent animal photos too “we will accept honorary cats as well, so you may show us a picture or drawing of a dog, raccoon, orca, capybara, or any other animal,” noted the Worcester Public Library.
If you have fees for lost or damaged items from the Worcester Public Library, you might consider this purrific barter. March Meowness ends at the close of the month as the name suggests. Make sure to read all of the fine print to ensure your library fees qualify for WPL’s March Meowness.
The library is hosting a series of feline-themed events throughout the month. On Easter, Worcester Public Library will have a free Leopard Canvas painting session from 1-2:30 PM. You can register here.
And if you’re someone who hoards cat photos on their phone and is ready to go, you’re about to get a whole lot meore! Boston’s first cat cafe is slated to open this spring.
