Boston travelers who regularly pass through Logan International Airport may soon find their airport routine getting a lot easier. Massport just established the Logan Airport Remote Terminal.
A new pilot program launching June 1 introduces a remote check-in and security option based in Framingham, designed to help passengers avoid long lines at the airport. The initiative, led by Massport in partnership with Landline Company, allows eligible travelers to complete key pre-flight steps before ever stepping inside Logan Airport.
Passengers using the Framingham location can check bags, go through TSA screening, and then board a secure shuttle that takes them directly to their departure gate. Once at Logan, they bypass traditional security checkpoints entirely, arriving airside with luggage already integrated into the airport’s system.
An easier route for frequent flyers in MetroWest
For frequent flyers coming from MetroWest or surrounding areas, the concept offers a more predictable and less stressful start to the travel day. Instead of navigating traffic and crowded terminals, travelers can begin their journey closer to home and arrive at the gate ready to board.
The pilot is currently limited to Delta and JetBlue passengers with departures scheduled between early morning and mid-afternoon. Seats must be reserved in advance, with bookings opening up to 90 days ahead of travel. The one-way service is priced at $9, with return trips handled through the existing Logan Express bus network.
Framingham is already the busiest Logan Express hub, making it a logical testing ground for the program. If successful, Massport has indicated the model could expand to additional airlines and locations.
For Boston-area frequent flyers, this could signal a shift toward a smoother, more streamlined airport experience.
