A Vermont mountain getaway just earned a spot among New England’s best resorts. The Lodge at Spruce Peak in Stowe ranked No. 3 among New England resorts in Condé Nast Traveler’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards.
Set at the base of Mount Mansfield, the four-season destination brings together slopeside lodging, locally inspired dining, spa treatments, golf, and a calendar of music and cultural events. And while its ski-in/ski-out access might tempt you to plan a winter escape, there’s plenty to explore beyond the slopes.
The Lodge earns a top-three ranking
Condé Nast Traveler announced its annual Readers’ Choice Awards on October 6, recognizing The Lodge at Spruce Peak as the No. 3 U.S. resort in New England.
The publication received more than 798,867 survey responses from readers across the United States, who rated their travel experiences around the world. The awards cover everything from hotels and resorts to cities, cruises, airlines, and spas.
“We are honored that Condé Nast Traveler readers ranked The Lodge at Spruce Peak the No. 3 resort in New England,” said David Lockard, the property’s managing director.
Lockard credited the resort’s team and returning guests, while highlighting the mountain, golf courses, dining, wellness, and year-round experiences that bring the Spruce Peak community together.
A four-season mountain escape
At the heart of Spruce Peak, The Lodge offers 312 guestrooms, suites, and private residences, with access to the destination’s village and outdoor activities. One of the key differentiators of The Lodge at Spruce Peak is its seamless ski-in/ski-out access to Stowe Mountain Resort, one of the top skiing destinations in New England, with over 523 acres of skiable terrain to explore.
For travelers building a getaway around more than skiing, the property’s offerings include:
- Signature dining at Alpine Hall and Tipsy Trout
- Massages, facials, body treatments, and salon services at The Spa at Spruce Peak
- A newly renovated fitness center with Technogym equipment
- Daily fitness and yoga classes throughout the year
- Golf and year-round outdoor recreation
- Music, culinary, cultural, and community events
The surrounding village adds a 427-seat performing arts center, a Bob Cupp–designed golf course, and a nearly 10,000-square-foot outdoor ice rink to the mix.
Whether your ideal escape involves time on the mountain or an afternoon at the spa, this Stowe retreat offers plenty of ways to make a weekend of it.
About the Readers’ Choice Awards
Unlike the weighted playability index in the Boston ranking, this recognition comes from readers rating their own travel experiences. The 798,867-plus responses span the awards as a whole—not just The Lodge or the New England resort category.
The 2026 winners appear on Condé Nast Traveler’s website and will also be celebrated in the magazine’s November issue.
Weekapaug Inn in Westerly, Rhode Island ranked at number 2, and Chatham Bars Inn on the Cape took home the crown as the number 1 resort in New England according to Condé Nast Traveler readers.
