Five Journeys is shaking things up in Boston’s medical scene. The dual clinic wellness center, spearheaded by the President of the American Celiac Foundation, Dr. Wendie Trubow and fellow doctor and husband Dr. Ed Levitan, recently opened a new location in Back Bay. The first-of-its-kind functional wellness center accepts insurance for most primary medical care services, which is almost unheard of for practices offering holistic wellness remedies like food sensitivity studies, Vitamin-D injections, IV boosts, and more.
Why Five Journeys?
Dr. Trubow and Dr. Levitan “believe you are meant to be vibrant, healthy and alive until at least 100 years of age.” Dr. Trubow explained how by the time symptoms are problematic enough to require a trip to the doctor, disease has already progressed. The wellness center is focused on proactive treatment to prevent and reverse medical issues rather than reactive care, which is the most common intervention in western medicine.
Optimal health presents itself when all five journeys are aligned and in balance: physical, chemical, emotional, social and spiritual. Dr. Wendie Trubow and Dr. Ed Levitan developed a comprehensive membership-based wellness organization that combines functional medicine with primary care to discover the root cause of health issues and address them in a holistic manner.
About Five Journeys
Dr. Trubow and Dr. Levitan met during their medical school years. After completing medical school and their residencies, they used their background and entrepreneurial skills to launch Visions HealthCare. In just a few years, it became the largest functional medicine practice in America, serving 20,000 patients over eight years.
In 2016, Drs. Trubow and Levitan opened 5 Journeys, a membership-based wellness organization that combines traditional MD techniques, there are four doctors on the team, and also functional wellness. This team believes that your environmental toxins, diet, activity, and stress do impact your overall health and can lead to chronic illness. Drs. Trubow and Levitan are so passionate about this message, they’ve traveled the globe sharing it and even wrote a book, Dirty Girl, educating people on the hidden dangers in everything from plastic water bottles to nasty feminine care products.
Our purpose in focusing our approach on improving our patients’ everyday experience vs. on immediate aches & pains is to avoid those in the first place,” says Dr. Trubow. “If we can help you Feel Freaking AmazingTM, then your long-term outcomes improve and we are able to help you live longer and better, said Dr. Levitan.
Unlike most functional medicine practices out there, Five Journeys makes this kind of care accessible, by being one of the only in the Boston area to accept insurance for its different visits and treatments. And the unique membership structure creates accountability for those who struggle with staying on track of their wellness goals.

Performance and Recovery Coaching
Structural health is an integral part of overall wellness. Five Journeys has two talented trainers hailing from Tom Brady’s TB12 Performance and Recovery Center. Drew Ryan is an athletic trainer invested in his client’s goals whether it be peak performance, injury prevention or both. Jon Kahane is the physical therapist at Five Journeys specialized in the mangement and reversal of sports-related injuries.
Clients are welcome to work with Drew or Jon to meet their structural health goals with mixed techniques of massage, stretching, mobility exercises, and personalized training plans to get you feeling phenomenal! Meet the coaches here!
IV Therapy and vitamin boosters
5 Journeys offers both wellness and medical IV therapy services in the heart of Boston. Get an ALA or Immune drip for glowing skin and increased energy, or inquire on the heavy-metal detox IV drip to address stubborn chronic health issues.
HBOT, short for Hyperbaric oxygen therapy consists of relaxing in a cozy carpeted private chamber (with a skylight) while breathing pure, pressurized oxygen for a 60-minute period. Regular HBOT sessions have been shown to reduce anxiety and depression while improving athletic performance and gut health. No wonder Kendall Jenner’s a fan!
Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy uses electromagnetic fields to reduce inflammation, promote tissue repair, and improve sleep!
BioMat and Infrared Sauna
These two services use the power of infrared heat to promote detoxification, circulation, lymphatic drainage, skin health, and improved mood. The BioMat also uses negative ions in addition to far infrared for double the health benefits.
HRV stands for heart rate variability and is a marker of overall health, especially cardiovascular. It essentially signifies the amount of push power your heart must use at to remain vitality at baseline, which is why athletes often have very low resting HRV of 40-60 beats per minute, meaning their heart does less work at baseline.
This HRV NeuralCheck determines your baseline for brainwave connectivity and is continually analyzed overtime while steps are done to improve heart and brain health with the Five Journeys team.
This comforting guided meditation uses the power of light and sound technology to enhance brain function while promoting relaxation. This unique therapy can reduce stress, anxiety, and pain and simultaneously improve sleep quality and mood.
