PIVOT! Your way to a new favorite coffee shop in the heart of Back Bay. Starting November 14 you can channel your inner Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler, Ross, or Joey while grabbing your daily cup of joe. The first ever permanent Central Perk coffeehouse will open in Boston tomorrow. Not New York City.
The coffeehouse draws inspiration from the comfort shop the friends frequented in the show. Central Perk Coffee Co. it’ll be called.
About Central Perk Coffee Co.
This is the first-of-its-kind brick-and-mortar Central Perk coffeehouse, but Central Perk Coffee Co. already has an adoring fanbase for its beans which it sells online. At the coffeehouse, you’ll now be able to order a cup of the Pivot Blend, How you doin?, We were on a break, Oh..my..gawd, Mod Point, and Gunther Espresso.
Central Perk Coffee Co. is bringing its themed beans to Newbury Street along with a modernized aesthetic inspired by the interior of Central Perk on FRIENDS. You’ll find an elevated version of the rust-colored sofa in addition to a logo on all merchandise nearly identical to the one of the show.
Our mission was to reimagine Central Perk as it would look and serve as a gathering spot for friends today, not to recreate the actual set. The space conveys the “Central Perk state-of-mind,” a place where people make memories – fall in love, commiserate, tell secrets and share laughter,” said Glen Coben, Founder and Principal Designer, Glen & Company.
This coffeehouse is the real deal, it’s even backed by Warner Bros. And while Monica won’t be whipping out the food and Rachel reluctantly fetching the coffee as we all try and contemplate what actually Chandler does for a living, you will find a delicious menu inspired by the show and crafted by Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio.
Central Perk Coffee tribute to Matthew Perry
Opening day at the Central Perk coffee shop will be a bittersweet one. Following the recent passing of the beloved Matthew Perry on October 28 who played Chandler Bing, the shop will honor him all day on November 14.
“Central Perk Coffeehouse will distribute the Chandler Bing ‘Can I Interest You in a Sarcastic Comment’ sleeve exclusively for the entire day, in honor of the life and enduring legacy of Matthew Perry,” according to a press release.
“Gum would be perfection”-Chandler Bing
While it would, you can munch on Joey’s meatball sandwich, Mama’s Little Bakery cheesecake, Rachel’s side salad, and sip on a Princess Consuela’s banana mocha blend or Chandler’s chocolate milk cold foam (Bing was ahead of his time with that cold foam trend).
Boston had seen a few FRIENDS pop-ups in the past, but Central Perk Coffee Co. is here to stay, so you and your friends can experience many seasons together.
The signature rust-colored sofa sits in a semi-private nook of the coffeeshop. Behind it is a neon sign that reads “The One With…” The sign nods at the signature format for FRIENDS episode titles.
“The idea is the one with … you,” said Gurdock. “So this is a place for everybody to come. The show is no longer in production, but you get to create your own stories here now.”
