Boston’s first-ever cake potluck arrives on Boston Common this October.
The cake fantasy is a very sweet celebration of Flour Bakery’s 25th anniversary. The local favorite, which began in Boston’s South End, recently opened its tenth location on Boston Common earlier this year. To celebrate the 25 years and 10 bakeries, Flour Bakery hosts Boston’s first-ever cake potluck—Cake on the Common.
Flour shared the news online:
“We’re hosting Cake on the Common, our 25th birthday party on Saturday October 11 from 10 AM until 12 PM and we hope you can come! Our blowout birthday bash is a cake potluck on Boston Common. Imagine 300 cakes of all kinds, as far as the eye can see… is this what dreams are made of? Even better, after everyone takes a first look at all of the cakes, you’ll get to taste as many as you’d like.”
The event draws inspiration from the internationally-recognized “Cake Picnic Tour,” which has yet to come to Boston.
Bring one cake, taste 300
Following the same format as Cake Picnic, all guests must bring their own cake to participate. Tickets are $35 and required to present a cake at the potluck and give you access to taste over 300 other cakes. 100% of ticket sales will be donated to the No Kid Hungry campaign in honor of Share Our Strength’s 40th anniversary, working to end child hunger in America. Flour’s goal is to raise $10,000 with this event.
Cake requirements
Since this is a communal cake potluck, there are certain requirements outlined by Flour Bakery to participate:
- Cake size: 8-10 inches
- Base: plate/platter/cake stand no wider than 12 inches
- Tools: must bring a cake server
- Ingredients: Flour Bakery + Cafe will provide a printable template to display ingredients and common allergens
Cake on the Common takes place on Saturday, October 11 from 10 AM-12 PM on Boston Common.
