Even the most sporadic of Red Sox fans would notice something slightly off about the team in the anticipated new Green City Connect jerseys. Since 2021, the Boston Red Sox participate in the Nike x MLB City Connect collaboration which creates special jerseys designed to reflect the city’s team.
Past jerseys paid tribute to the Boston Marathon colors, banana jerseys with royal blue accents. The yellow, Red Sox jerseys paired with periwinkle blue caps were worn on the field for a few games since 2021 as part of the MLB’s “City Connect” program, as portrayed in the image below:
The Sox were one of 7 teams to debut in the City Connect program. The goal is to create a uniform that represents and honors each team’s city. While the yellow and blue are not classic Sox colors, no two colors better emulate the Spirit of Boston.
Rumors suggest that 2025’s Boston Red Sox City Connect jerseys will be green, although the news is not yet confirmed. The green jerseys could pay tribute to Boston’s St. Paddy’s traditions, Green Monster, and maybe even a tie to the Boston Celtics and their recent winning streak. Here’s what the green Sox jerseys could look like:
The special uniforms will be worn for a few games before returning to their regular jerseys.
