The Paris Olympics kick off later this July, and you might recognize some of the faces at the games. Celtics champions Derrick White, Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday are just a few Boston-area athletes trading their greens for a little red, white, and blue. Taytum and Holiday were recruited by Team USA Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Steve Kerr prior to the NBA Championship win and Derrick White was recently added to the lineup, replacing Clipper, Kawhi Leonard.
Tatum and team USA notoriously won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 12-man all-star team hopes to do the same this year. Tatum and Holiday are joined by NBA legends LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Anthony Davis, Anthony Edwards, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Haliburton on the 2024 Team USA Men’s Basketball squad.
The 2024 Team USA Women’s Basketball squad doesn’t have any Bostonians but does features a star-studded lineup of talented players. Close to home is Forward Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun and Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu of New York Liberty! 12 women will compete to win gold for team USA! Not on the roster is Associated Press Player of the Year, Caitlin Clark, which has sparked debate.
Other athletes with Boston roots to look out for include Olympic Sailer, Anna Weis, a Boston University Alum. Plus, these 39 athletes, some already Olympic champions and others new to the village, will represent all six New England states:
