North Conway, NH, Bethel, ME, and Stowe, VT, are in the top 5 of the best ski towns in North America and they’re just a couple of hours away from Boston!
If there’s something we know how to do well here in New England it’s certainly the cold weather. Home to the “Capital of Fall Color” one can’t deny that New England gets exceptionally beautiful during the colder months, especially now that it’s also home to three of the best ski destinations (including no.1) in the whole of North America according to USA Today.
North Conway managed to land the no. 1 spot on USA Today’s “Best Ski Towns” list this year followed by Rossland, British Columbia, at number two and the New England towns of Bethel, ME, and Stowe, VT, at no. 3 and no. 4, respectively.
Tucked away in the breathtaking Washington Valley of the White Mountains, North Conway offers all kinds of winter activities including skiing of course, top-notch lodging, restaurants and shopping. The town’s pastel-colored architecture “oozing New England charm” make it the ideal destination for exploring and cozying up after hitting in one of the many surrounding alpine and Nordic ski resorts, while the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center also makes for an “excellent rest-day diversion” according to USA Today.
Bethel and Stowe were similarly praised by the publication, which complimented both towns for their excellent snow condition and variety of trails. With places like the Foggy Goggle and Matterhorn bars, USA Today also highlighted Bethel’s lively après ski scene and excellent restaurants.
In the case of Stowe, the publication distinguished it as being “a quintessential New England ski town, complete with excellent options for both downhill and Nordic skiers” and didn’t forget to mention the popular Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory just a stone throw away from the popular ski town.
So if you’re looking to hit the slopes this winter, make sure to head over to North Conway, Bethel or Stowe for the ultimate ski trip!
