About Beard Papa’s
The pastry shop is famous for its signature cream puffs- soft and fluffy on the inside, crunchy on the outside, and filled right on the spot. Guests can select from the menu or design their perfect cream puff with their choice of pastry shell and filling.
Staples of the Beard Papa’s menu are the Original Cream Puff, filled with a delightful vanilla pastry cream and the Green Tea Eclair which is a cream puff filled with matcha cream and dipped in matcha glaze.
Hailing from Japan, the Mecca for matcha, the green tea flavor is nutty, earthy, and fresh. The menu also includes seasonal flavors like ube and passionfruit, in addition to other desserts and beverages.
It’s all in the name
The bakery began in the small Japanese town of Osaka in 1999. The owner, Yuji Hirota, became synonymous with delicious baked goods and visitors were just as charmed by his kind face and fluffy beard.
His beard earned him the nickname “Beard Papa.” Hirota decided to make a dessert as comforting, “fluffy and lovable” as his beard according to the site.
“He perfected the art of his pastries by making a double-layered puff–choux on the inside, and pie crust on the outside. Then, he proceeded to make the perfect filling, made with a mixture of whipped and vanilla custard cream. ”
Today, there are over 435 Beard Papa’s locations worldwide. The grand opening for the Back Bay Beard Papa’s has yet to be announced! Check back for more updates.
