A larger-than-life inflatable chair that looks like it came straight from the Barbie movie set will be on display at Faneuil Hall. The grand centerpiece is part of The American Cancer Society’s larger October event for Breast Cancer Awareness month. The chair will be in Boston from Friday October 13 through Sunday, October 15 with a special ceremony on Saturday.
Visitors are encouraged to snap a photo on the chair and learn about the risks and signs of breast cancer. There will also be luminaria bag displays, live music, and pink-themed food and refreshments from participating vendors like Naughty Waffle, Boston Scoop, Ben & Jerry’s, Wagamama’s, Mija Cantina, and Ned Devine’s.
The American Cancer Society states that “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States, except for skin cancers. More than 300,590 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2023. Since 1993, the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer® campaign has united communities, companies, and individuals with a collective goal to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone.”
Making Strides is the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement. The funds raised go towards research, patient support such as housing and transportation, and a 24/7 hotline to help those with cancer.
The blow-up chair will be at Faneuil Hall all weekend long. The special ceremony for Breast Cancer Awareness Month with local vendors and handouts will be on Saturday, October 14 from 2-6 PM.
