Beginning summer 2024, Bostonians will have the opportunity to hop straight on a plane at Logan and land in Portugal six and a half hours later.
Currently, no airline offers nonstop flights between Boston and Porto, Portugal. The inaugural Azores Airlines flight connecting Boston and Porto takes off on June, 4, 2024.
Before that, Azores Airlines will offer connecting flights to Porto from Boston from November 2023. These flights make 1 stop in Ponta Delgada, the capital of Ponta Delgada. The total flight time for this trip is 10 hours. Travelers also have the option to select the islands of São Miguel or Terceira as an overnight connecting destination.
About Azores Airlines
As the name suggests, this airline group flies direct to the Azores. The Azores are a group of 9 islands in the North Atlantic about 2,500 km off the coast of North America, and 1,600 km off the coast of Portugal.
The Azores are an archipelago-a cluster of islands in a body of water, often the result of a volcanic eruption. The islands belong to Portugal.
The airline is known to make connections and stops at the Azores before departing again to Europe. Eastern cities, Toronto, New York, and Boston can opt-in to an island retreat before taking off to their final destination.
Nonstop transatlantic flights to Portugal
In 2024, Bostonians will have the option to skip this connecting flight and instead board nonstop to Portugal. The returning flights will also be of historic significance for Azores Airlines.
This will be the first time operating transatlantic flights out of Portugal for the airline.
