Yankee Candle is the largest scented candle company in America. To match that sizeable statistic is a magical 105,000-square-foot holiday haven known as Yankee Candle Village. Built in Deerfield, Massachusetts in 1983, Yankee Candle Village and its adjacent 300,000-square-foot candle making factory offer the loveliest excursion to cater to all of your holiday needs –any time of year. Inside the village is a secret ‘Bavarian Village’ inspired by German holiday markets!
December is an especially magical time to visit the Yankee Candle Village, just under two hours from Boston in Western Massachusetts! There are dozens of activations and nooks to get you in the holiday spirit.
Bavarian Market at the heart of Yankee Candle Village
The Village has over 12 unique activations explore. One of our personal favorites is a Bavarian Village inspired by the German holiday markets Yankee Candle Founder, Michael Kittredge, experienced on a trip abroad. His goal was to transport Yankee Candle Village visitors to wintertime in Germany with the establishment of this village.
A massive holiday tree acts as the centerpiece for quaint snow dusted shops filled with German teas, trinkets, sweets, and of course Yankee Candles! Many aspects are nearly identical, making guests feel like they’ve stepped into another world.
A trip to the North Pole
Speaking of other worlds, you can also visit Santa and his elves at the Village! Greet Santa from behind a red velvet curtain that when drawn back reveals his magical headquarters at the North Pole. Visitors also have time to sit in his sleigh and snap a photo or enjoy “Storytime with Santa.” Don’t leave the North Pole without telling Santa what your wishes are and playing the festive elf advent calendar game where you’ll draw a number and reveal your hidden prize from behind an embossed wood door!
While it’s “always the holidays at Yankee Candle Village,” Santa has to head out to deliver gifts on December 24. Make sure to catch him before he flies off into the sky! He’ll be back for the Village’s “Christmas in July!”
Custom Candles
Obviously, you cannot leave Yankee Candle without a candle. There is some law against that somewhere.
This location houses thousands upon thousands of candles in every shape, size, color, and scent. You can also make your own layered candle at Wax World or concoct a custom scent to infuse a candle base with.
Another great customization option for holiday gifting is personalized candles with a photo of your choice. A special adhesive photo is printed from your digital files, adhered to your candle with whatever messaging you’d like to include. It makes a darling gift for the holidays! A trip to the Village is also a great experiential gift!
About Yankee Candle
In 1969, Yankee Candle founder, Michael Kittredge of South Hadley was just 16. To make his mother a nice holiday present, he melted some crayons and made a gorgeous, scented candle. The Kittredge’s neighbor was so amused by the candle she bought one and the business grew organically via word of mouth. About 14 years later Kittredge established the Yankee Candle Village.
The now public company is currently valued at $979 million.
