Vermont is well known as one of the globe’s top maple syrup producers.
But, the Green Mountain State also does dairy well! Vermont accounts for about 1% of the nation’s milk production, making it top producer of dairy in New England, but not in the nation. California accounts for the highest output of milk production, with 18%. While it is not the majority producer of dairy products, the state is home to hundreds of dairy farms, with many producing all sorts of products that do end up on dinner tables and cheese spreads around the country.
Jasper Hill Farm, Vermont Creamery, and Cabot might be a few of the Vermont dairy farms that ring a bell! You’ll likely find their products stocking the shelves of every Massachusetts dairy aisle. If you’ve been crushing on Vermont’s delicious dairy, then the Vermont Cheese Trail is a wonderful New England excursion filled with quaint small towns, charming farms, and lots of cheese, milk, butter, and ice cream!
