These five New England towns are more akin to Stars Hollow than any others. One of the towns on this list, is actually the very town that sparked the idea for Gilmore Girls in Amy Sherman Palladino. Palladino enjoyed a getaway at the historic Auberge resort, Mayflower Inn (which would later become the inspiration for Sookie and Lorelai’s Dragonfly Inn) when she fell in love with Connecticut so much, she decided to write a show in the charming setting.
Little did she know that show would become a staple in so many people’s lives, inspiring others to take their own Gilmore Girls-themed getaways to New England. And what better season to plan a Gilmore Girls trip than fall?
This is your sign to start planning your fall getaway to one of these Stars Hollow-like New England towns!
1. Washington, Connecticut
Home of the Mayflower Inn & Spa and the town cited as the official inspiration for Stars Hollow, this is the original town to visit for Gilmore Girls fans!
2. Litchfield, Connecticut
Nearby to Washington, Litchfield is also a town Palladino spent exploring when drafting the Stars Hollow setting. The town’s frequent season-inspired events, cute downtown, and village green feel like Stars Hollow.
3. Sturbridge, Massachusetts
Best visited in fall to enjoy the Berkshires foliage ablaze, Sturbridge Village has the historic charm and colonial-era buildings of quaint Stars Hollow. There’s a strong community spirit that makes your neighbors feel like Luke, Sookie, and Kirk among others!
4. Camden, Maine
Camden doesn’t take fall lightly. You’ll get that Stars Hollow charm with the added bonus of a seaside! Think The Summer I Turned Pretty meets Gilmore Girls! Make sure to stop at nearby Ogunquit and Biddeford which also offer a similar energy!
5. Woodstock, Vermont
Part of Stars Hollows’ charm is the quirky fun-filled events throughout the year. Woodstock itself boasts a vibrant community celebrating each season. Enjoy abundant foliage, a charming downtown, and plenty of local art.
