There’s a new midweek reason to head to Back Bay: a weekly sushi pop-up has quietly launched inside The Irving at The Lenox Hotel.
Called Shuden Bar, the new concept serves hand-rolled sushi every Wednesday evening at the hotel bar on Exeter Street. The pop-up runs from 4 to 9 p.m., making it an easy stop for an after-work bite, a pre-dinner snack or a more relaxed sushi night in the heart of Back Bay.
Sushi at The Irving
Shuden Bar’s menu centers on a selection of sushi and hand rolls.
The pop-up takes its name from the clusters of bars and casual eateries often found near train stations throughout Japan. The concept also draws a connection to The Lenox Hotel’s own railroad-era history: the Boston & Albany Railroad once ran directly beside the hotel around the turn of the 20th century.
The setup transforms The Irving into a weekly destination for sushi in Boston.
A hidden Back Bay sushi spot
The Lenox Hotel has stood at the corner of Boylston and Exeter streets since 1900, just steps from the Boston Marathon finish line. Today, the independently owned Back Bay hotel is home to The Irving, a restaurant and gathering spot named for Irving Saunders, the patriarch of the Saunders family that has owned the hotel since 1963.
Shuden Bar offers a more unexpected way to experience the space, pairing Japanese-inspired hand rolls with the hotel’s historic setting.
Whether you’re looking to switch up a Wednesday happy hour or want a casual sushi option before a night in Back Bay, the new pop-up is worth adding to the rotation.
