Dunkin’ celebrates the end of a Dunkin’ Desert with the opening of its new location in a town 45 minutes from Boston called Dunkin’, Massachusetts.
You may have visited Dunkin’, Massachusetts, before—famous for its apple picking in the fall—or it may be your first time hearing of this town. Perhaps because the town of Stow will officially adopt the name Dunkin’ on July 24. The new name will only be official for 24 hours, but the legacy of ending a Dunkinless era for residents lasts forever. Along with saturating the former Dunkin’ desert with all sorts of iced regulars and Dunkin’ classics, the team is celebrating with some epic activations:
- 100 days of free coffee for the first 100 Dunkin’ Rewards members in line
- Live unveiling of the Dunkin’ Desert gallery wall, depicting highlights of the Dunkin’ Desert
- Remarks from Matt Shearer, WBZ NewsRadio reporter who originally broke the “Dunkin’ Dessert” news in 2022
- Ribbon cutting ceremony and commemorative town name plaque with Cuppy, Dunkin’s mascot
Stow formerly had two Dunkin’ locations which closed within one month of each other in 2022. The situation gained widespread attention after WBZ NewsRadio’s Matt Shearer posted a light-hearted TikTok poking fun at the Town’s predicament. The video went viral and gained media attention, reaching far beyond the scope of Stow, almost 100 million people became aware of the town’s predicament as a Dunkin’ Desert.
Mark and Megan Pesce, who operate multiple Dunkin’ franchises throughout Greater Boston, purchased 108 Great Road in August 2024 – the site of the long-closed Beef ‘N Ale restaurant on the Lower Village Common.
As soon as we heard the two stores in Stow had closed, we wanted to fix that,” Megan Pesce told board members. “We’re excited to be able to keep the feel, and the porch, that was the Beef ‘N Ale for so many years.
To properly recognize this return to true New England living, the he Pesce’s asked the town to adopt Dunkin’ as its official name on opening day, Thursday, July 24! The celebration takes place from 10 AM-1 PM at 108 Great Road, Dunkin’, Massachusetts.
