Need to get to Manhattan in a New York minute? Tailwind Air, a New York born seaplane company flying out of Boston can take you there in just over 1 hour. It’s currently the fastest commercially available route to the Big Apple.
The graphic below demonstrates seaplane’s cutting edge compared to a flight out of Logan or opting for a train ride. Even with the proposed high-speed bullet train connecting Manhattan and Boston, seaplane is still the fastest method of transit.
Seaplane connections from Boston
Flights from Boston don’t only go to Manhattan. During tailwind Air’s 11 years in business, they’ve expanded their terminals to include Nantucket, Plymouth, Newport, Shelter Island, Bridgeport, and East Hampton. Starting this fall, they’ll also offer service between Manhattan and Washington D.C.
How long do flights take?
Check-in for a seaplane is rather speedy, taking only a few minutes to sign-in and weigh your bags. There isn’t the lengthy idle time you’d get at an international airport, which is why flight time is essentially the entire trip time with Tailwind Air.
Below are all of the Boston connections, you can view the full schedule online.
- Boston to Manhattan: 1 hour 22 minutes
- Boston to Nantucket: 1 hour 8 minutes
- Boston to East Hampton: 1 hour 5 minutes

- Boston to Plymouth: 35 minutes
How much does it cost?
Prices fluctuate based on availability and season, but tickets one-way generally start around $300. For frequent flyers, there are commuter packages to buy 10, 20, or 50 round-trip tickets.
