Established in 1630, Boston is brimming with history, beans, and tea. After nearly 400 years on the map, a few charmingly quirky spots are what make the city truly special. So, take advantage of the glorious summer weather and go explore these semi-quirky but 100% cool places or things to do in Boston!
1.The Innovation Trail
Established in 2023, the Innovation Trail is Boston’s newest walk through history. The 21-stop trail travels from Downtown Boston to Kendall Square in Cambridge. Learn about innovative trailblazers such as the man who made a fortune off of ice and see where Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.
2. Tremont Street ghosts
Home of Boston Ghost Tours, this block of the city has some haunted spots, or so rumor has it! Learn more about all the hidden secrets and haunted corners of Boston on this one-of-a-kind Ghost Tour.
3. The Liberty Hotel
Before it was the Liberty Hotel, it was the Beacon Hill Jail. Before there were 298 guest rooms and 6 fine dining options, there were 298 cells and a general cafeteria. Stay the night for a quirky staycation or simply check out the jail-inspired dining on site.
4. Museum of Bad Art
If you’re sick and tired of perfectly good, breathtaking artwork, then a trip to Dorchester’s Museum of Bad Art will leave you feeling inspired, and at the very least a little confident in your own artistic abilities. Come explore weird art, that was at least good enough to make it into a museum (of bad art)!
Currently at 1250 Massachusetts Ave, Boston, MA 02125
5. Mount Auburn Cemetery
The cemetery itself is a regular cemetery, nothing quirky about it. What makes Mount Auburn Cemetery quirky is how people interact with it. Home to several famous deceased such as Anne Revere and Henry Cabot Lodge, the cemetery is somewhat of a hotspot for tours, and even high school scavenger hunts. Quirky, weird, and a little eerie!
6. Duck Boat
The hard-to-miss brightly colored red, orange, and blue boats are a trademark of Boston tourism. As touristy as they are, they’re huge, travel from land to water in a jiff, and you can play tourist for the day. Take a ride on one and see the city from a fresh lens.
7. Bodega
The coolest and quirkiest store in the city is actually hidden behind a mini-mart! A secret backdoor at Bodega unlocks a chic elevated streetwear store draped in plush reds and gleaming with shiny new sneakers.
