One of the most nostalgic and entertaining ways to spend a summer night is definitely enjoying an outdoor movie. Whether you’re looking for a movie spot that’s walkable, drivable, or just plain free, here are 6 spots to go see an outdoor movie this summer!
1. CX Movie Nights
This summer, the Brattle Theater is teaming up with Cambridge Crossing to bring you family-friendly movies in Dawes Field, the new half soccer field at CX! Your free ticket will give you access to a double feature movie night, plus water and popcorn. Nearby, you’ll even have access to food trucks! Remember to bring a lawn chair or blanket as availability is limited. The schedule is as follows:
July 27, 2023: “The Secret Life of Pets” at 5:30 p.m. and “Top Gun: Maverick” at 7:10 p.m.
August 24, 2023: “Shrek” at 5:30 p.m. and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” at 7:10 p.m.
2. Mayor’s Movie Night
The Mayor’s Movie Nights are part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s ParkARTS program. Held in August, the 11 movie showings begin at dusk and take place at various neighborhoods around Boston from August 8, 2023 to August 29!
3. The Loring Greenough House
The historic Loring Greenough House in Jamaica Plain is back for the summer with several Friday night movie screenings throughout the summer. Starting May 26 with “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once“, the screenings will take place on the lawn for $7 a person. Get your tickets here.
4. Science on Screen at the Greenway
The Coolidge Corner Theatre is hosting three free screenings this summer on the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Shown in 35mm, each of the films are related to nature and will feature an introduction from a local expert on the films topic. It Came From Outer Space is next on the lineup with a showtime of 8PM on August 16. Plus, it’s completely free to attend!
5. Mendon Twin Drive-In
About an hour southwest of Boston, the Mendon Twin Drive-In has been showing summer movies since 1954. Showing a combination of the latest flicks and classic films, you’ll be sure to find something you’re interesting in seeing. Plus, they’ve got great selection of snacks at the concession stand!
6. Merrimack Valley Pavilion
This spot on Main Street in Tewksbury has mini-golf, laser tag, arcade games and drive-in movies. You can catch a family-friendly movie at the MVP every Friday and Saturday night at 8PM for $25 a vehicle.
