
One of the most nostalgic and entertaining ways to spend a summer night is definitely enjoying an outdoor movie. Whether you’re looking for a movie spot that’s walkable, drivable, or just plain free, here are 6 spots to go see an outdoor movie this summer!
1. Mayor’s Movie Night
The Mayor’s Movie Nights are part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s ParkARTS program. Held in August, the 11 movie showings begin at dusk and take place at various neighborhoods around Boston from August 6 to August 29!
2. Boston Landing Outdoor Movie Nights
Boston Landing will host a series of free outdoor movie screenings complete with live music, contests, giveaways, and delicious food from local vendors like American Flatbread! Here’s a list of scheduled screenings:
- June 20 from 5-11 PM: The Greatest Showman
- July 11: Home Alone
- July 25: Clueless
- August 8: Barbie
- August 22: Footloose

3. Outdoor screenings by the Coolidge
The Coolidge Corner Theatre is hosting three free screenings this summer on the Speedway and Rose Kennedy Greenway. Movies from Scooby-Doo to Godzilla 2000 will be shown in 35mm. It’s completely free to attend!
4. Mendon Twin Drive-In
About an hour southwest of Boston, the Mendon Twin Drive-In has been showing summer movies since 1954. Showing a combination of the latest flicks and classic films, you’ll be sure to find something you’re interesting in seeing. Plus, they’ve got a great selection of snacks at the concession stand! Tickets are $40-$75 per car, not per person.
5. The Loring Greenough House
The historic Loring Greenough House in Jamaica Plain is back for the summer with several Friday night movie screenings throughout the summer. Starting June 28, the screenings will take place on the lawn for $7 a person. Get your tickets here. This screening does include a nominal fee.
There is one more summer screening, Jaws, on Friday, August 23 from 8-10:30 PM.
