Prudential Center could have a new ‘world-class’ observation deck come 2023.
While the closing of Top of the Hub earlier this year left all of us a bit sad, it looks like it won’t be long until we can take in the gorgeous views from atop the Pru, 750 feet above the Back Bay!
Boston Properties, owners of the Prudential Tower, has already filed plans with the city to remake the top three floors of the iconic tower as an observation deck with ‘breathtaking unobstructed views” of the city.
Remodelation plans involve replacing the ‘Prudential’ signs with a new façade including an indoor and outdoor observatory behind and underneath the new signs. The observatory would be located on floors 50 through 52 and would add over 12,000 square feet of floor area. The plans also include a ground-level pavilion proposed for access to the elevator and observatory but could also hold events.
‘The Project is designed to provide guests with an immersive experience in local geography and history, show guests the City from a new, three-level indoor/outdoor 360 observation deck 750 feet in the air, and then facilitate guests building their own custom itineraries for travel into Boston and Greater Boston — to explore on foot the same areas just experience from the air,” reads Boston Properties’ proposal.
Renovations are expected to start early next year and would take a little over two years to complete, which means the Prudential’s new observation deck would open sometime in 2023.
