The National Women’s Soccer League Boston division kicks into action come 2026! Boston will have yet another professional sports team to cheer on in the world’s greatest sports city.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, the franchise selected three cities for expansion—Boston, Utah, and San Francisco. The record-breaking franchise deal cashes in at $50 million.
The news of expansion came in 2022, and the National Women’s Soccer League finally solidified 2026 as the year for the Boston professional women’s soccer team to compete in the league. The Boston franchise comes backed by a team of female investors, including Juno Equity founder Jennifer Epstein who also has minority ownership of the Boston Celtics!
This will not be the cities first run with women’s soccer. Boston does have a history of professional women’s soccer. The Boston Breakers formed in 2001 and competed as part of the NWSL from 2012 through 2018. The Breakers time came to a halt due to financial and championship struggles.
The new team, yet to be named, plans to rev up women’s sports and the soccer scene in Boston. Their proposed home is White Stadium which may undergo a $50 million renovation under the FY24 Capital Plan. The stadium sits in Franklin Park and has a capacity of 10,519.
2026 promises to be a big year for soccer in Massachusetts with the FIFA World Cup and return of professional women’s soccer! Stay tuned for more updated on the National Women’s Soccer League coming to Boston in 2026.
