A globally recognized matcha café brand, nana’s green tea, is set to debut in Boston, marking its first location in New England. Founded in Tokyo in 2001, the café will bring nearly 25 years of Japanese matcha craftsmanship to Newbury Street, introducing its signature drinks, desserts, and hospitality-driven experience to the city’s Back Bay neighborhood. The opening reflects the continued rise of matcha across the U.S., while offering a more traditional, authentic approach rooted in Japanese tea culture.
Signature matcha drinks and parfaits land on Newbury Street

Located at 175 Newbury Street, the café joins one of Boston’s most iconic retail corridors, known for its mix of luxury boutiques, cafés, and high foot traffic. The menu will feature handcrafted matcha beverages and the brand’s signature matcha parfaits, a layered dessert that remains relatively rare in Boston.
Unlike trend-driven cafés, nana’s green tea sources its matcha directly from producers across Japan, including Yamamasa Koyamaen, a Kyoto-based tea company with more than 160 years of expertise in Uji tea. The result is a menu that emphasizes both quality and authenticity while maintaining accessible pricing.
Expanding Japanese tea culture in the U.S.

Boston will become the brand’s second East Coast location, following New York City, and its seventh in the United States. The expansion follows a recent flagship opening in Pasadena, California, with additional locations planned nationwide.
Beyond its menu, nana’s green tea centers its experience on omotenashi, the Japanese philosophy of thoughtful, wholehearted hospitality. As the brand continues to grow, it aims to make authentic Japanese matcha part of everyday life while supporting the preservation of traditional tea cultivation.
Opening Friday, July 17 at 175 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116
