Cambridge’s nearly 200-year-old cemetery will bring back its popular outdoor movie nights this September.
The annual event, a partnership between Mount Auburn Cemetery and the Coolidge Corner Theatre, will transform the historic cemetery into an open-air cinema for Cemetery Cinema. The program is now in its sixth year.
A sunset screening of Wings of Desire tops the agenda for this year’s Mount Auburn Cemetery Cinema. Each year’s lineup aims to inspire connection and reflection.
Screening schedule
Wings of Desire (1987) follows angels as they observe the lives of people in Berlin. The double feature continues with a screening of The Straight Story (1999), a heartfelt film based on the true story of an elderly World War II veteran who travels hundreds of miles by lawn mower to reconnect with his brother.
The open-air movies are screened under the stars at 7 PM sharp on Tuesday, September 22 in one of America’s most historic and beautiful landscapes. The movie night takes place as summer turns to fall, celebrating both seasons while bringing the community together.

The open-air screening is a bring-your-own-seating-and-snacks event, so plan accordingly. Mount Auburn Cemetery is accessible via the MBTA’s 71 or 73 bus.
