MIT/Area 2 in Cambridge is a small but mighty neighborhood, home of one of the country’s top science and technology centers you’ll find everything from Pfizer to Chemistry Cafes. There is plenty of stuff to geek out about in this innovative hub-even if you don’t care for the sciences too much!
Once you’re done exploring Area 2, make sure to continue over to Central Square for some yummy dinner ideas and of course, only the best ice cream in the world at the newly renovated Toscanini’s!
1. Explore the MIT library and Museum
Currently the 2nd best national university according to US News, MIT certainly has the library and museum that live up to that standing. Open to the public, both the library and museum will showcase challenging works of art, literature, and of course scientific findings in a mind-boggling light.
2. Play tennis on the fabulous MIT courts
MIT also has some exceptional tennis courts, maybe the best in the city. They are open to the public if you want to hit and also have a tennis wall if you want to go solo!
3. Relax on Memorial Drive
We’ll fill you in on a little secret, if you want to go for a quick walk on the esplanade without paying for parking, Memorial Drive has free parking up to 30 minutes. Spaces are limited but if you get a spot, it’s just enough time to walk on over to the under bridge hall of fame at Longfellow!
4. Grab pizza at Area 4 of course!
Speaking of Area 2…head to Area 4 in Kendall for some of the area’s best pizza. Pun intended.
5. Scope out a chemistry cafe
Science is not just limited to the halls of MIT. The entire Area 2 neighborhood in Cambridge is a little geeky or quirky, and not ashamed of it! Miracle of Science is a restaurant inspired by the periodic table of elements in Cambridge perfect for a science wiz!
