The nation’s oldest public sailing program, Community Boating Inc., nestled on the Boston side of the Charles River Esplanade, is hosting a 24 hour “Sail-athon” this summer, including a midnight sail!
Normally, the Charles River sleeps after sunset, with no boats on the water until the sun rises again. However, for 24 hours only, Community Boating Inc. will host the first Sail-a-thon from Saturday, June 20 into Sunday, June 21. The event will feature boats sailing well past midnight, into the early hours of the morning, unlike anything ever before in Boston!
The event celebrates Community Boating Inc.’s 80th anniversary! The organization serves as the premiere public sailing program for Bostonians, and is the oldest public sailing program in the nation. A regatta organized with the public in mind, all of the sailboats will be visible from the shore of the Charles River, allowing spectators to watch all components of the regatta.
The 80th Anniversary Sail-a-thon will support CBI programs. The Junior Program makes sailing accessible for youth, with sliding scale tuition. Some families pay as little as $1 for their child to attend sailing camp on the Charles all summer.
The Universal Access Program organized over 450 Adaptive Sailing & Therapeutic Sailing appointments!
The Community Boating Inc. Sail-a-thon takes place on the Charles River from Saturday, June 20 through Sunday, June 21 at 21 David G Mugar Way, Boston, Massachusetts 02114.
