D.C.-born and bred Medium Rare “steaks” a claim to New England with its first Boston-area location. This is one of the nine locations for the popular steak-frites restaurant with a simple delectable concept.
Medium Rare serves only one prix fixe dinner menu. They offer an award-winning Culotte steak with fresh-cut seasoned fries. The plate is topped off with Medium Rare’s special secret sauce that is so good, it has the internet in a frenzy—a creamy, salty, herby sauce with hints of black peppercorn, mustard, and rich gravy that pairs perfectly with the steak and fries.

“You have to have the best of something, otherwise you’re off the radar,” says Mark Bucher, co-owner of Medium Rare with his business partner Tom Gregg. “We knew we had to have a sauce with ‘come back’ quality and we do. We go through insane lengths to keep it a secret.” The sauce “is loved and ordered by people all over the world,” and has gone through hundreds of variations before reaching the ultimate uniqueness.
Customize your steak to your liking, whether you crave the classic, medium rare, or prefer a medium or well-done grilling. The unbelievably priced steak-frites dinner includes four courses.

At the start, savor fresh-hot artisanal rustic sourdough bread with a golden crust and a doughy interior. The bread comes with a a spat of butter and salt and pepper for seasoning. The second course is a fresh greens salad that balances the warm creamy steak dinner to follow.
The main event is Medium Rare’s award-winning Culotte steak with fresh-cut fries and their perfect secret sauce. For $34.95 indulge in the artisanal rustic bread, a salad, a serving of steak frites, and a second complimentary serving of steak frites on the house! Vegetarians and vegans can opt for the portobello mushroom entree with roasted red-pepper sauce.

Medium Rare also serves massive desserts like a Key Lime Pie supreme, 7-Layer Carrot Cake, and delicious beverages like hot apple cider. On weekends, enjoy diverse brunch menu entrees like Eggs Benedict or Medium Rare’s take on the classic breakfast sandwich. The restaurant’s character nods to the classic French dish that inspired it—with French lessons overhead on the speakers in the restrooms.
Bon appétit!
