The 1994 movie, Forrest Gump, took home 6 academy awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Tom Hanks, and filmed in dozens of locations across the nation. One of them, is Marshall Point Lighthouse in Port Clyde, Maine. The team filmed there in 1993, one year before the film’s release.
Tom Hanks concluded his cross-country journey at the Northern Maine lighthouse. This lighthouse is the one which Forrest runs to after the love of his life, Jenny, shatters his heart. It’s about 2.5 drive from Acadia National Park and 4-hour drive from Boston.
Run Forrest, run!
The lighthouse is marked on Cinemapper, an interactive map that shows you famous filming locations in your region. The map itself has about 2300 markers across 611 films and TV shows. Dozens of these are in New England, highlighting filming locations of The Instigators, The Holdovers, and more.
About Marshall Point Lighthouse
This picturesque lighthouse sits on Port Clyde Harbor on the Gulf of Maine. The historic lighthouse was built in 1832 with a Keeper’s home at the end of the footbridge. The lighthouse has been rebuilt and restored several times over due to harsh winters and lightning.
The modern Marshall Point Lighthouse replaced the weathered tower in 1857. Visitors are not allowed to the top of the lighthouse as it is still actively used by the U.S. Coast Guard. However, some cite the grounds of this lighthouse to boast some of the best vantage points for catching the sunset!
