Outgrowing its original 161-square-foot space, Somerville’s Make and Mend now boasts a nearly 500-square-foot retail and studio space selling over 6,000 thrifted arts and crafts supplies. The digital and physical store offers almost every art essential you can imagine at an accessible price with its thrift shop business model. Make and Mend began in2017 with the mission to remove barriers to entry for artists. The shop aims to offset initial investment expenses associated with the upfront costs of art supplies.
As a secondhand shop, Make and Mend offers gently used art supplies at an accessible rate to create access to tools—both for established artists and entry level beginners. Whether you want to try your hand at needlepoint for the first time or are hunting for a professional easel to take your painting to the next level, you’ll likely find it at Make and Mend.
While inventory is always in flux as a thrift shop, Make and Mend Owner and Founder Emily Tirella drops new supplies daily at 7 PM! These items come from generous donors looking to pass on their clean, reusable arts and crafts supplies. If you have unwanted art supplies, give them a second life at Make and Mend, just visit the shop to donate materials.
