The wintery season has been bringing plenty of bitter cold and high winds to Massachusetts and things aren’t slowing down, with reports of a major snowstorm for not only a portion of the Central states but also the mid-Atlantic.
A high wind warning remains in effect for most of the state until Tuesday afternoon, with frequent gusts up to 50 mph, threatening some power outages and downed tree limbs. By Wednesday, winds should begin to ease, though temperatures will stay somewhat chilly with highs in the upper 20s.
As for Thursday, an ocean storm is expected to “graze” southeastern Massachusetts with snow during the afternoon and evening. Should it stay on track, an accumulation of snow is possible along the South Coast of Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the islands, with 1 to 4 inches possible. For Boston, Providence and the North Shore, a coating of snowfall is likely.
“Snowfall accumulations in the Northeast, especially in New England, will be heavily dependent on the track of the storm,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kerry Schwindenhammer said in a recent report. “A sharper turn up the coast on Thursday could lead to noticeably higher amounts for places as far north as Boston, Providence, Rhode Island, and even Portland, Maine.”
Thankfully, this storm is forecast to clear out by Friday. You can keep an eye on the weather forecast and any upcoming warnings on the NWS Boston/Norton website here, as well as their social media channels.
