You might know renowned Boston chef, Leigh Whittaker from Earth at Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine or as an alum of celebrated Boston restaurant Fox & the Knife on West Broadway. In her latest endeavor, Chef Whittaker brings a fashionable Mediterranean-influenced concept to the most stylish street in the city.
Inside ‘Le Mari’
The 1,300-square-foot restaurant occupies the space of the former Bar à vin 1855. The interior, dressed in turquoise channels the hues of the Aegean Sea, perfectly accented with golden fixtures, a cheeky custom “Alice in Wonderland” art piece, and a French mural depicting “Mediterranean Views” by Joseph Dufour et Cie in Paris c. 1820.
What’s on the menu?
Working at several farm-to-table establishments and a training at Cambridge School of Culinary Arts inspired a desire to create a space focused on sourcing locally. The Mediterranean spot highlights homemade pastas, and a culinary adventure through the Mediterranean with bold flavors and shareable plates.
The menu at Le Mari offers a harmony of crudo, small plates designed for sharing, land and sea mains, as well as assorted accompaniments and desserts.
Menu standouts include scallop crudo with grilled pineapple, toasted coconut and aguachile; carne with bone marrow aioli, beech mushrooms and sorrel; and duck fat gaufrettes with shallot aioli, caviar and tarroco dust.
Entrée highlights include sea bass with tzatziki, fennel, Granny Smith apple and sumac; steak frites, a picanha cut with gremolata; and a flavorful Lion’s Mane with butterbean puree, Marrakesh and garbanzo that won’t have you missing the meat. There’s also a trio of handcrafted pastas like cacio e pepe with white alba truffle or squid ink vongole with San Marzano tomatoes.
Le Mari currently offers dinner service but intends to offer weekday lunch and weekend brunch in the coming weeks.
