Lake Morey Ice Skating Trail is North America’s longest wild ice skating trail. The 4.3 mile loop is a natural outdoor ice skating trail, that travels around Lake Morey, Vermont.
In the past, access to the trail was through Lake Morey Resort. A recent change in insurance policy, due to the liabilities associated with skating over a lake, transferred management to the town of Fairlee, Vermont.
Users of the trail were devasted to learn that the Lake Morey Skating Trail became off-limits for some time earlier this month. “It is a huge economic driver for us and the fact that the ice trail remains free is something that you can’t find a lot nowadays — an outdoor activity that you don’t have to shell out a lot of money for,” noted Fairlee Town Administrator Ryan Lockwood. Snow is removed off the trail to offer skating access.
Access to the trail is free and pets are permitted on the trail. Find the trail in Fairlee, Vermont.
