New Englanders can trade modern-day life for a day in a mythical 16th-century kingdom when King Richard’s Faire returns to Carver this September. Celebrating its 45th season, the long-running festival will fill the Edaville Entertainment Venue with knights, musicians, artisans, performers and thousands of visitors in costumes. The seasonal event is billed as New England’s largest Renaissance festival, offering a full day of live entertainment, themed food, shopping and fantasy-fueled fun for families, friend groups and devoted faire fans.
A 16th-century village comes to Carver
King Richard’s Faire transforms its Carver grounds into Carvershire, a Renaissance-era village where attendees can watch jousting tournaments, encounter royalty and explore vendor booths. Hundreds of performers are expected to entertain guests across eight stages, with music, comedy, dance and interactive characters spread throughout the grounds.
The 2026 season marks the festival’s continued move to the Edaville Entertainment Venue, a site with more infrastructure and accessibility than its previous location. The grounds also introduce particularly New England scenery to the old-world experience, including cranberry bogs and a mirrored pond. Visitors can dress in Renaissance attire or arrive as they are, though costumes are part of the spectacle and make the experience especially memorable.
Plan ahead for a popular fall outing
The faire begins with a three-day opening weekend over Labor Day and continues every Saturday and Sunday through late October, with an additional Monday date over Indigenous Peoples’ Day weekend.
Visitors should arrive close to opening time for the best chance at convenient free parking. With all-day programming, costumes, food and performances, King Richard’s Faire makes an easy destination for a September or October weekend trip from Greater Boston, the South Shore or Rhode Island.
